What they needed
The business needed a marketplace that could scale past 2,000 independent sellers without collapsing into the generic, cluttered feel most multi-vendor platforms end up with. Each artisan needed real ownership over their storefront — their own product listings, inventory, and order history — but the buyer-facing experience still had to read as one curated, high-end retailer, not a patchwork of mismatched shops. Standard multi-vendor tooling forces a tradeoff: give sellers autonomy and the site looks fragmented, or lock down templates and sellers feel like they're renting shelf space.
What we built
We built the storefront in Next.js on top of Shopify Plus, giving the business a fast, SEO-friendly buyer experience while keeping Shopify's commerce backbone — inventory, orders, fulfillment — as the system of record. TailwindCSS enforced a single, consistent design language across every seller's product pages, so 2,000+ independent storefronts render inside one cohesive visual system instead of looking like separate sites bolted together. Each artisan got their own seller dashboard to manage listings, inventory, and orders without touching code or design. Algolia powers search and product discovery across the full catalog, paired with AI-powered product recommendations. Integrated shipping logistics and Stripe payment processing round out the backend, so goods and payouts move reliably from checkout to individual artisans.
How we approached it
Built a custom multi-vendor solution on top of Shopify Plus, with seller dashboards, so each artisan manages their own listings and inventory without needing developer support.
Built the frontend in Next.js rather than relying on Shopify's default theme layer, giving faster page loads and full control over how thousands of seller pages render consistently.
Standardized every product template on TailwindCSS design tokens, so listings from 2,000+ different artisans share consistent spacing, typography, and imagery treatment site-wide.
Handed search and discovery to Algolia instead of Shopify's native search, for faster, more flexible indexing across a catalog of one-of-a-kind handcrafted goods, paired with AI-assisted recommendations.
